San Antonio Couple Arrested for Stealing $250,000 Worth of Crypto Assets

This is a disturbing case of SIM card fraud and theft of cryptocurrency assets by a couple in San Antonio.

Andrew Trujillo and Zena Dounson were able to steal at least $250,000 worth of cryptocurrency using a SIM spoofing scheme.

They copied SIM card data and forwarded short messages to customers’ mobile phones during their service at the local office of AT&T, where Dawnson worked.

This allowed them to intercept and use phone and text messages to compromise other phone owner accounts and gain access to various cryptocurrency services of their victims.

The couple was able to transfer the stolen cryptocurrency to their own accounts. They have pleaded guilty to the charges and are expected to be convicted by a San Antonio court in the near future.

Each of the participants in the fraudulent scheme faces a sentence of up to 5 years in prison. This case highlights the importance of keeping personal information and online accounts secure, especially when dealing with cryptocurrency and other valuable assets.

Users should take steps to protect their SIM cards and mobile devices from unauthorized access and regularly monitor their accounts for suspicious activity.
