Nissan Files for Web3 and NFT-Related Trademarks: Plans to Develop Virtual Assets and Platform

Nissan, the well-known Japanese car manufacturer, has recently submitted four trademark applications pertaining to Web3, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), and the Metaverse.

Mike Kondoudis, an attorney licensed by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), shared on Twitter that the pending applications are for Nissan’s brands such as Infiniti, Nismo, and Nissan.

The submitted trademarks indicate that Nissan aims to venture into the field of Web3 and develop various virtual products such as clothes, cars, hats, trading cards, toys, and tickets.

The documents also mention the creation of a platform to facilitate the issuance and trading of NFTs, as well as entertainment services involving digital multimedia images, video, and audio files.

To achieve this goal, Nissan plans to design specialized software for issuing, trading, storing, and tracking NFTs. According to the company, this software could also function as a digital wallet.

Recently, Nissan launched a virtual store called “Nissan Hype Lab,” which sells cars in the metaverse. Toyota, another automotive giant, has also shown interest in the possibilities of the metaverse, and Hyundai Motor, a South Korean automaker, entered the NFT market last year.

Kondoudis previously noted that the number of NFT and blockchain-related trademark applications filed with the office tripled from the previous year.
