The Sandbox Reports Phishing Email After Security Breach

The Sandbox, a metaverse platform, has reported a security breach that led to some users receiving a phishing email.

According to the firm, an unauthorized third party gained access to an employee’s computer and used it to send emails to users.

The email, titled “Access to The Sandbox (PURELAND)”, contained links to malware that could be used to gain access to the personal information of those who clicked on them. The number of people who received the email has not been disclosed.

The company assured its users that the third party access was restricted to one employee’s computer and that they have not been able to access any other accounts or services of The Sandbox.

However, the project team warned that if a recipient clicked on a hyperlink in the email and malware was installed on their computer, personal information stored on the device could be accessed.

To mitigate the impact of the breach, The Sandbox notified all recipients via email and reset compromised passwords on the employee’s account.

The company also sent a new email to known recipients of the fake email instructing them not to open, play or download anything from the website to which there is a hyperlink.

Phishing attacks are one of the most common ways to steal funds from crypto users. Recently, users of the MetaMask crypto wallet faced phishing emails as well.

The hacker sent phishing emails containing a link that opened a fake MetaMask website asking for a secret recovery phrase “to keep your wallet safe”.

As a result, investors have been advised to be cautious and double-check website links, email addresses, and points of contact when dealing with messages from MetaMask and Namecheap.
