Marathon Digital Partners with Brink to Support Bitcoin Core Developers

Bitcoin mining company Marathon Digital and Brink announced the start of a donation drive to support Bitcoin Core developers.

Marathon will double the donations made by Brink on a two-to-one basis throughout the Bitcoin 2023 conference, which ends May 20.

The company will then equalize the donations one-for-one through the end of the year for a total of up to $1 million.

Marathon said Bitcoin Core developers are volunteers who often work on a pro bono or donation basis to make the Bitcoin protocol work.

“At Marathon, we have historically focused on supporting Bitcoin by adding hashing speeds that help protect the network.

We now support those who support the open source protocol that we all depend on,” said Marathon CEO Fred Thiel.

He added that without developers, a decentralized payment network that everyone around the world can use freely would not work.

“We believe it is in the best interest of every bitcoiner and bitcoin company to ensure that developers can continue to provide their core services, and we invite anyone interested to join us in supporting Brink to help developers,” he added.

Earlier, Thiel criticized U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration’s proposals to impose a 30% tax on miners’ income.

He said that such a tax would not work and the introduction of such measures would force mining companies to relocate their equipment and register offshore firms.

Earlier it was reported that amid growing pressure from U.S. regulators, Bit Digital, a New York-based mining company, is expanding its infrastructure in Iceland.
