European Parliament has postponed the deadline for publication of the final version of the bill on the digital currency of the EU.

According to CoinDesk journalists, the European Commission is considering options to expand the availability of the digital euro to the general public, for example as a retail payment option.

Citing sources close to the European Parliament, CoinDesk journalists report that the agreement on the final version of the proposals has caused disagreement among members of the commission on the privacy and technical implementation of the central bank’s digital currency issue (CBDC).

Eurozone finance ministers could not reach a consensus on: what would be considered the added value of the digital euro environment in terms of individual economies and the daily lives of citizens.

The MEPs decided to send the proposals for revision and temporarily postpone the publication of the legislative initiatives, announced for June 28, defining the options for the use and regulation of the digital euro.

The European Commission did not give a new date or reasons for postponing the release of the legislative initiatives.
