The Russian company BitСluster launches a data center for mining in Ethiopia

BitСluster, a Russian company, has announced its plans to establish a cutting-edge 120 MW data center in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, solely dedicated to Bitcoin mining.

“Scheduled to be operational in January 2024, the facility, located within the Kilinto high-voltage substation, will house a whopping 34,000 Antminer S21 miners, collectively generating a hashrate of 6.8 EH/s. At present, the transformers are being interconnected,” shared BitСluster with Bits.media.

The data center sources its electricity from the renowned Hydase hydroelectric power station, the largest of its kind in Africa boasting a massive capacity of 5.15 GW.

“The climatic conditions in the area, with an average temperature ranging from 12 to 23°C and the absence of heat and dust, create an optimal operational environment for mining equipment,” affirmed BitСluster.

In December, miners successfully mined a remarkable 4,055 BTC valued at around $170 million, according to the calculations of MinerMag experts. The total monthly revenue from mining could potentially soar to a staggering $1.4 billion, matching the mining earnings observed during the pinnacle of the previous bull market in December 2021.

Marathon Digital, the largest publicly traded mining company, is embarking on a pilot initiative to mine BTC by harnessing methane generated from household waste in landfills to produce energy.
