BitMEX to Send 1 BTC to the Moon in Historic Cryptocurrency Mission

Crypto exchange BitMEX announced that it will send a physical wallet with 1 BTC to the moon. The rocket itself is scheduled to launch from Kennedy Space Center this summer.
Bitcoin, which has a public address and private key engraved on it, will be the world’s first financial asset sent into space, BitMEX said.
The project involves Astrobotic Technology and Bitcoin Magazine. The project is symbolic of Bitcoin’s exploration of its uses beyond Earth, said Stephan Lutz, acting CEO of BitMEX:

“This is not just an achievement for BitMEX, it’s a breakthrough in human history.”

According to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine, the mission has gone through extensive testing and preparation to ensure the bitcoin wallet is ready for space flight.

The block will carry text from a genesis block in tribute to the mysterious bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto.

Earlier, cryptocurrency company LunarCrush said it would use a SpaceX rocket to send a private key to a cryptocurrency wallet containing 62 BTC to the moon.
