Meta* joins the race to create a ChatGPT-like AI chatbot

Meta* has recently announced its plan to develop a new chatbot based on artificial intelligence (AI), joining the growing list of technology companies that are inspired by the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot.

The CEO of Meta*, Mark Zuckerberg, shared the news on Facebook* that the company would allocate resources to develop a new high-level product line that focuses on the use of AI.

Despite not giving any specific details, Zuckerberg mentioned that the company would be paying increased attention to AI specialists to help develop AI assistants that can aid people in many different ways.

This move by Meta* shows a shift in priorities towards AI, and the company is determined to catch up with other heavyweights in the tech sector, such as Google and Microsoft.

Google has already introduced Bard, its own chatbot, while Microsoft has integrated ChatGPT into its products, including the Bing browser.

Similarly, Snapchat has announced plans to create its own chatbot, My AI. Adding to the list, Elon Musk has also recently revealed his plan to create a competitor to ChatGPT by creating a new AI lab headed by Igor Babushkin.

This announcement shows that there is growing competition in the field of AI and chatbots, with companies and individuals alike aiming to create innovative products that can help people in various ways.

“Can AI Outperform the Metaverse?

Meta* had been heavily investing in the metaverse, but recently the leadership seems to have lost its enthusiasm for the idea and shifted focus towards AI.

2022 was a challenging year for Meta*. In July, the company faced its first quarterly revenue decline ever. The prolonged crypto winter also made it difficult for the company to compete in the metaverse market.

Meta* even admitted that it does not expect a return on investment in the metaverse before the 2030s. Hence, the management appears to have decided to explore AI as a new revenue stream.”
