Nokia Aims for Virtual Reality Market as Part of Rebranding

Nokia, the Finnish telecommunications equipment manufacturer, is branching out into the virtual reality market as part of its recent rebranding efforts.

In a statement made by Nishant Batra, the director of technology at Nokia, the company sees opportunities in becoming a facilitator for the development of virtual reality infrastructure.

With the emergence of the augmented reality trend, Nokia aims to play a major role in the digitalization era by providing solutions for various problems and new business opportunities for players like them.

The company believes that the industrialization of the metaverse presents the most significant opportunities for them.

Nokia aims to digitize existing businesses to run them in virtual reality, paving the way for a new era of digitally augmented worlds.

However, Nokia acknowledges that it must first prepare the infrastructure for the 6G standard to solve connection delay problems.

Earlier, Nokia rebranded itself after 60 years, shifting its focus from smartphones to business technology.

The company began exploring the metaverse on a practical level in 2022, establishing two laboratories to study technical solutions for creating virtual reality.

Despite these efforts, creating a real metaverse requires innovations in several technological areas, according to specialists from the Chinese company Huawei.

A truly effective metaverse will not be created until effective local and remote real-time rendering, high-quality video compression, a breakthrough level of machine computing, and other innovations appear on the market.
