How Would Dogecoin, SHIB, PEPE, and FLOKI Respond if Donald Trump Becomes President? Experts Weigh In
The discussion surrounding the phenomenon of memecoins in the cryptocurrency market has taken an intriguing turn, with Castle Island Ventures partner Nic Carter suggesting that these digital assets are partly a reaction to the restrictive regulatory climate enforced by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Carter contends that a Trump victory and the subsequent relaxation of cryptocurrency regulations would have a negative impact on memecoins.
However, prominent crypto influencers Cobie and Murad offer different perspectives on the matter.
Cobie takes a more forceful stance, asserting that the SEC’s influence on memecoins is minimal. He points out that for many investors, it is nearly impossible to access early-stage non-memecoins due to the existing fundraising models. Cobie urges the SEC to establish exemptions for decentralized token projects, which would result in more equitable and compliant crowdfunding opportunities.
Adding another layer to the debate, memecoin influencer Murad suggests that politics, particularly in relation to SEC regulations, is not the primary driver of the memecoin boom. Instead, he attributes their popularity to broader socio-economic trends, specifically the continuous expansion of the global money supply.
“99% of memecoin buyers don’t care about politics,” Murad claims. He believes that these investors are drawn more to the potential for significant price gains rather than traditional fundamentals or cash flows. Murad also dismisses the notion that making altcoins more akin to stocks by implementing fee switches, which capture and distribute protocol revenues, aligns with the motivations of crypto traders. According to him, attempts to introduce such mechanisms won’t resonate with the crypto community.
“Everyone entering the crypto space is seeking exponential gains,” Murad contends, arguing that as the global money supply continues to increase, attention will become more valuable than conventional fundamentals.
